Revolt Against Reason
To follow up on the chicanery down in Jesus-Texas-land, it looks like the nut-jobs have won the day. Now we can only watch the crazy ooze out of Texas into text-books nationally. NYT
After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday voted to approve a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics t, stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Fathers’ commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light…
Among the various stupidities on display this one jumped out at me… for obvious reasons.
In the field of sociology, another conservative member, Barbara Cargill, won passage of an amendment requiring the teaching of “the importance of personal responsibility for life choices” in a section on teen suicide, dating violence, sexuality, drug use and eating disorders.
“The topic of sociology tends to blame society for everything,” Ms. Cargill said.
Does this person even have a clue as to what the discipline of sociology is all about…? Yet, Texas will allow these under-educated fools to, in essence, define what it means to be educated in Texas!?
TPM has more coverage here including the exclusion of revolutionary Thomas Jefferson from world history standards and the inclusion of theocrat John Calvin. Nice. Very nice.
